If YAPYAP can’t detect your microphone, it’s usually the input device, permissions, or a conflict with other audio apps. Start here.

30-second quick checks

  1. Replug the mic / try another USB port
  2. Confirm Windows Input level moves when you speak
  3. Set the mic as Default Input Device
  4. Restart the game after changing inputs

Step 1 — Windows input + permissions

  • Select the correct input device in Windows Sound settings
  • Allow microphone access in Windows Privacy settings
  • Disable Exclusive Mode to avoid app conflicts

Step 2 — Steam Voice test

Steam → Friends & Chat → ⚙ → Voice

  • Select the correct input
  • Run Microphone Test
  • Confirm transmission type (PTT/Voice activation) and keybinds

Step 3 — Common conflicts

Close Discord / OBS / NVIDIA Broadcast / virtual audio tools, then relaunch Steam and test again.
